ScourStopTM transition mat is a semi-solid, UV protected plastic mat designed with voids throughout the structure enabling vegetation to grow within. The synergy of mechanical protection and vegetation enables ScourStopTM transition mats to resist much higher shear and tractive forces than vegetation alone, riprap, and most other BMPs.
Extreme scour testing at Colorado State University (CSU) using cumulative 30 minute flows of 8, 12, and 16 feet per second durations confirmed ScourStopTM transition mats mechanically protect the soil from scour. In fact, the results from this extreme testing were more than double the allowable flows for riprap. Over 2 million gallons created the desired stress-but no erosion under the ScourStopTM system, strongly impressing the seasoned researchers at CSU. |
